West County Day School greatly values education and places a high priority on developing a well-rounded, hands-on curriculum that meets the needs of each individual child. Our Creative Kaleidoscope of Learning curriculum is based upon a monthly theme that incorporates Zoo-Phonics®, Math Their Way, Science, Literacy skills, Social Studies, Fine Motor Skills/Handwriting, Cooking, Art, Music and Movement Activities. A daily schedule is followed and includes our exclusive Fun With Fitness program and small and large group instruction throughout the day.

We strongly believe that art is a process, not a product. Children are exposed to art in all different types of medium and are encouraged to express themselves through their work as well as through Music, Movement and Drama. Circle Time is a great opportunity for the children to talk and share, even to do a little dance.

West County Day School recognizes the importance of building self-esteem at a very young age. We encourage a positive sense of self by using praise, encouraging independence and building on their skills. Beginning at the current skill level, we offer the children new challenges in which they can be successful. Our Character Building curriculum supports positive interactions and important social skills such as honesty, courage and responsibility.  Manners are also encouraged in the classroom throughout the day. Children are nurtured in a warm and caring environment.

Our multi-cultural program is a key component of our curriculum. Studying other countries and cultures is a part of our monthly curriculum. Pictures, posters and books are displayed throughout the classrooms. Circle time discussions are enhanced with hands-on art, games and cooking activities.

Science is taught throughout the week, both inside and outside the classroom.  We encourage the children to become aware of the world around them, how things work, and to develop critical thinking skills. Children are challenged to analyze and evaluate interactive experiments in the classroom to foster a love of science and nature.

We invite you to take a look at the expanded curriculum pages listed in the blue area above or in the menu under Curriculum.
